What is fasting?

Fasting in the Bible means abstaining from food or drink to focus on prayer and seeking

a closer relationship with God. It is a spiritual discipline that emphasizes humility,

dependence on God, and a desire for deeper communion with Him.

In the Book of Acts, fasting is a spiritual practice paired with prayer when believers seek

God’s specific guidance, make major leadership choices, or send out missionaries. It

shows a deep reliance on God rather than relying on physical food.
